Location

The boathouse is located on an island on the River Thames, just upstream of the Kentwood Deeps channel, about ½km west of Tilehurst Railway Station. The island is a true island for about 8 weeks a year when the river levels are high. During this time, camping is not normally permitted. During the remainder of the year it is connected to the Oxfordshire side of the river by a marshy ditch.

Access

Access to The Island is directly from the River Thames only. Visitors are normally ferried in from the jetty opposite on the Berkshire side of the River. The leader in charge will be given full instructions on how to access The Island and the Boathouse when the booking is confirmed.

Directions

From M4 Junction 12 take the A4 towards Theale, then the A340 to Pangbourne and then the A329 towards Tileurst and Reading. On entering Reading Borough you will find the Roebuck Hotel on the left-hand side.

From the car parking area next to the Roebuck Hotel, take the Thames Path footpath bridge over the railway line and down to the banks of the River Thames. Turn left at the river and continue on for about 100 metres until you reach the jetty opposite The Island.

Parking

Visitors wishing to bring a vehicle should park up along the Oxford Road near to the Roebuck Hotel. Please ensure you park your vehicle legally and do not trespass. Please be aware that parking is entirely at your own risk.
